Re-Examining the Foundations of Western Civilization - October Cohort

This 10 week course, with 11 live sessions, can bring you from confusion to clarity and confidence regarding the current predicament of Western civilization and direction, for what you can do to remedy it. By looking at the ancient foundations of modern society, notably the teachings of King Jesus and the Bible, you will be able to understand the unfolding of the history of the West, in its great achievements and contributions, as well as the flowering of corrupt seeds, sown above all by ancient Greek philosophers. Live sessions: 11 @ 2 hours each, Saturdays 10am - noon Pacific Time. Six Greek Philosophers and King Jesus

In this course, you will look at six key ideas of six ancient Greek philosophers, seeing how they have impacted key writers and thinkers in the western tradition. You will be able to discern how problems in Western civilization today have their roots in ancient Greek philosophy. You will also see the antidote to these ideas in the teachings of King Jesus and his followers. The course includes tests to verify your progress. (The course is open to all, with two exceptions – those who actively seek to undermine Christianity and those who call themselves Christians, but have lives of persistent moral failure or deny core beliefs.)

Re-evaluating Plato’s core beliefs - a course in intermediate Greek

Students advance their Greek reading skills through selected excerpts from Plato’s dialogues—Phaedo, Republic, Symposium, Timaeus, Phaedrus, and Theaetetus—while systematically examining four core topics: (1) Theory of Forms, (2) Immortality and Nature of the Soul with Recollection (Anamnesis), (3) Cosmology and the Demiurge, and (4) Epistemology, Dialectic and the Philosophical Life. The course contrasts Plato’s ideas with the surpassing wisdom and truth revealed in the teachings of King Jesus and the Holy Scriptures.Note the course is being built. Five of 24 lessons are published. Completion is aimed at for early 2027.
